Javad Zarif told CNN that Iran hoped to avoid conflict, adding that the country was willing to talk to its regional rivals Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. But Iran would not hold talks with the US unless Washington provided full relief from sanctions as promised under the 2015 nuclear deal, Tehran’s top diplomat said.

He again denied that Iran was involved in weekend attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities, which dramatically ratcheted up tensions in the region. Zarif said Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who claimed responsibility for the attack, have stepped up their military capabilities and were capable of conducting a sophisticated operation such as the one that knocked out half of the kingdom’s energy production.

Probed further, however, Zarif was unable to provide proof that Houthis launched the drones and missiles. “I cannot have any confidence that they did it because we just heard their statement,” said Zarif. “I know that we didn’t do it. I know that the Houthis made a statement that they did it.”

Iran’s top diplomat said Tehran would not start discussions with the Trump administration before full sanctions relief. US and Saudi officials have repeatedly dismissed Houthi claims of responsibility in the weekend attacks. Instead, they have pointed the finger at Iran.

War drums have become louder since the attack. US President Donald Trump has called on Pentagon officials to plan potential responses. He tweeted that the US was “locked and loaded” but was waiting for Saudi Arabia’s rulers to decide on a path forward.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was the first official to name Iran as the culprit, is in the Persian Gulf visiting Saudi and Emirati leaders.

Asked what the consequence of a US or Saudi military strike on Iran would be, Zarif said: “All-out war.” “I make a very serious statement about defending our country. I am making a very serious statement that we don’t want to engage in a military confrontation,” said Zarif. He added that a military response based on “deception” about the weekend attacks would cause “a lot of casualties.” “But we won’t blink to defend our territory,” he said.

Saudi Arabia is capable of fighting their own wars. We know they can, because we sold them their weapons. They also own the 45th. floor of the Trump tower, and pay a lot of money for maintenance, etc. in the Tower. They seem to be very, very, very good friends to the President, and he is says he is waiting for them to tell him when to go to war with Iran. Why doesn’t our President look to our intelligence Agencies for their evidence and advice in taking us to another war? In the moral state of our nation, we don’t need to go to war with anyone, as we have plenty of problems with “immorality, ungodliness and incivility” that must first be fixed by coming back to God. If we go to war without Him, we’ll never recover as we already living on the brink of anarchy.
President Trump is very ardent about his allegiance to his business friends in powerful positions like Putin, Xi and the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, but he should think more about the lives of our warriors and patriots that may die while fighting in another foreign hotbed nation. Maybe NATO and the UN should step in and form a coalition of nations to go against Iran, like we did with Iraq. At least the others could share in the expense and loss of lives. May God help us to come to our senses and return to Him, Pray, Repent and Turn from our wickedness. (2 Cron. 7:14)
“The wicked will be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God.” (Ps. 9:17)
