Tennessee’s new governor has issued an official proclamation naming Oct. 10 a “Day of Prayer, Humility, and Fasting” and is urging the state’s citizens to join him and his wife in asking for “God’s favor and blessing.”

Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican who took office in January, posted the 230-word proclamation on his Twitter profile. In a separate video, he had thanked people across the state for praying for him.
“We know that prayer accomplishes much,” he said. “Prayer strengthens our families and it strengthens our communities. It strengthens our relationship with our neighbors. It strengthens our relationship with God himself.”
Lee and his wife Maria, he said, are inviting the people of Tennessee to pray for the state on Oct. 10 to request “God’s favor and blessing on the people of Tennessee.”
The proclamation thanks God for the many blessings in the state – the Smoky Mountains, the Mississippi River and its people – and requests forgiveness for “transgressions,” including for “acts of discrimination, oppression and injustice.” The proclamation further asks God for wisdom for “challenges” ahead.
Following is the text of the proclamation:
“Whereas, the people of Tennessee are thankful to call this remarkable state home, from the towering Smoky Mountains in the east to the mighty Mississippi River in the west, and every remarkable scene in between; for our people who come from all over the world to find opportunity and hope in our thriving cities and beautiful rural communities; for this and much more we give thanks; and
“Whereas, we seek forgiveness from our transgressions; from acts of discrimination, oppression and injustice; and inaction caused by greed, pride, and indifference; for these and many more we ask forgiveness; and
“Whereas, the people of Tennessee seek wisdom and discernment for our state in the days ahead to support thriving families and communities across our state, to promote an environment of opportunity for every Tennessean, and to ensure our safety and freedom; for these challenges we seek wisdom; and
“Whereas, the people of Tennessee acknowledge our rich blessings, our deep transgressions, and our complex challenges, and further acknowledge the need to give thanks to God Almighty, to turn from our transgressions and ask for God’s forgiveness, and to humble ourselves and seek God’s wisdom and guidance;
“Now, therefore, I Bill Lee, Governor of the State of Tennessee, do hereby proclaim October 10, 2019 as a voluntary Day of Prayer, Humility, and Fasting in Tennessee and encourage all citizens to join me in this worthy observance.”

On October 10, the night of this day of prayer and fasting, leaders begged God to not only bless Tennessee, but to also raise up other leaders to bless their states in the same way. Yesterday, January 22, 2020, Governor Pete Ricketts of Nebraska proclaimed the day a statewide day of prayer for the unborn.
It has begun.

Thank you Gov Lee for making the Word of God final authority and standing for what you believe. I pray that you walk in the wisdom and knowledge of God and that you have the mind of Christ in every situation. Thank you Father God that for divine protection around Gov Lee and his staff and I pray for unity among everyone within his cabinet. Illinois, willingly, joins with Governor Lee in behalf of Tennessee and its citizens for God’s favor and that His gaze be fixed on the Governor and the Aroma of those prayers lifted before Him today!
May God remember the prayers of intercession of those Christian Pioneers who foraged the highways in the wilderness, every Trace, every stream, all throughout Tennessee in times past. Remember Your promises to them , oh God! Footprints hidden from our eyes, yet lead by your Spirit for Your purposes, even for fruition in our time and generations to come! Amen!
Praying from Florida “the sunshine state” for all states of this great nation to turn back to the morals and values that this great nation was founded upon! Gov. I thank you for the courage and faith and heart for God and His principles that this humble servant has. I ask you bless all he puts his hands to give him great success. I also ask for this to come about in my state of NC that those who won’t bow their knee to King Jesus they be winnowed out and replaced with a governor that will, so we (those that are reading this from other states and have this same desire) you will grant it to us and our leadership and regions as well. Father, I thank you for our Governor and his call for Tennessee to pray, fast and humble ourselves before you today. Forgive us Lord for we have sinned greatly and turned away from you. We confess those sins Lord and we turn back to you and ask for your mercy and grace. We are lost without you. We need you Lord. We need you in our homes,our marriages, our schools, our churches, our government. I ask Father, that you would bless our state with godly leaders like Bill Lee. Leaders who are honest, filled with integrity and who long to do your will. Bless us with leaders who will stand strong again corruption and against the enemy. I am blessed and thankful that my Governor is calling forth a day of prayer and fasting in Tennessee. This is a move of God on the heart of this man and I pray this will spark a fire around the nation with leaders to pray with courage and boldness for such a time as this. We need the Lord desperately to turn around personally and corporately to the Lord and his promises. Righteousness exalts a nation. The prayers of the righteous availeth much. Even though you may not live in Tennessee, pray for the Governor,his family,the gathering this evening and that God will show up in a mighty way.
Dear Father God, Please let my dear Commonwealth of Pennsylvania become a state of prayer too. Gov. Thomas Wolf needs our prayers to turn his heart to Jesus, and heal our beautiful land of Pa.
