I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Most Christians are so caught up in their own personal lives and the close circle of friends they have, it’s hard to get in touch with the needs of a city. And yet, God is stirring hearts all around this nation to do just that. Community prayer groups have been on the rise and many corporate gatherings and prayer initiatives are being launched within countless cities to take a stand for righteousness in their own territory. The moral crises we face, the increased corruption in government, and the rising tide of socialist ideologies have caused even nonbelievers to rise up and speak out. The Lord is using the chaos and confusion to call us to action and to prayer.

The reality is that national transformation can only happen when there is a cumulative effect of individual cities and regions both taking and occupying their land. National leadership is always home-grown, and it’s at the local level that change must start. The more communities that understand these principles and practice them consistently, the more likely we will be as a nation to not only displace wicked rulers, but have the needed influence and authority to govern our land the way God has always intended.

God’s vision is big and He is calling out to cities to take a stand for righteousness and become communities of refuge and dwelling places for His presence. The only thing that will hinder Him from moving in our community is us. We are the ones who must take ownership in this call and take action.

Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven?” (Matthew 11:20-23)

It always starts with repentance and taking responsibility for the sins on the land. The wonderful promise is that if we are faithful to do this and commit ourselves to obeying His voice and engaging with our culture, He will entrust us with even more so that His Kingdom can continue to increase and expand.

…And he said to him, “Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities” (Luke 19:11-17).

Alan Vincent, an apostolic father and prophetic voice to the nations, speaks to believers about the spiritual authority we’ve been given and how we must use it at the community level. He wrote about this in his book, Kingdom at War:

There is power in intercession. We need intercessors who can clearly hear God and then, through their prayers and the right God-directed activism, get into the realms of politics, the judiciary, law enforcement, education, and the media so His Kingdom can truly come. The kingdom of satan has long been established on Earth and is still here until the Kingdom of God comes to forcibly replace it. There is no vacant, neutral territory anywhere in the world. Therefore, every attempt to establish the Kingdom of God is automatically an invasion of what satan has illegally occupied and now regards as his territory. That is why the Kingdom of God always suffers violence and is vigorously attacked the moment it appears to be gaining ground. The only way to deal with that demonic violence is to be even more spiritually violent in our response.

God doesn’t just want to fix our problems, He wants to totally transform us. This isn’t just about governing well, but living well. It is about stewarding all that God has given us so that others can see a living demonstration of heaven on earth. This is God’s desire that started in the Garden. He has always desired for us to steward this land for His glory. The only thing that can thwart this plan, is us.

Yes, this is one topic with which I resonate. I live in Milwaukee and keep thinking about prayer walking around the Fiserv Forum where the Democratic National Convention will take place July 13-16, 2020. I cannot help but think the demons are having a field day here in Milwaukee to disrupt this country. BUT, I cannot help but think that God has plans for His people to go to spiritual war against the forces of darkness.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank YOU that You have given us weapons to fight the good fight in Jesus’ name. We, as a country, commit unto You the conventions that will select candidates for elected positions. Pray please Milwaukee will be filled with prayer warriors who will earnestly go to spiritual battle to knock down evil forces. Grant us great numbers to pray together, pray individually, in our churches and in our prayer meetings. Bless this country to go forward with many, hand in hand and prayer-walk those areas / buildings that house ‘darkness’. We seek courage and Holy Spirit boldness to overcome the fear and intimidation others may instill upon us.

Pray please we will be so familiar with the blood of Jesus and His work on the cross that the only way we can look, is forward, for His sake in Jesus’ name. Amen

Awesome article. I have so much to say, it resonated with me so well. I’ve been feeling a stirring for the nation in my heart for some years now, but I always wondered if this was the result of carnal pride for the country or of something higher. I think it may be a mixture of the two.

Back in 2013 I committed to weekly prayer for the country. I managed to get a few friends to take on that commitment too. But, I feel the need to do more. Unfortunately, I lack direction, sufficient debate skills, and courage. It is hard to debate with someone or even have a conversation about some of these culture war topics. I have deeply-ingrained insecurities about myself, peoples’ approval, even what I believe. I feel like I’m supposed to be a soldier, but I got a broken leg, a dislocated soldier and I’m blind in one eye. How the heck do I fight??

I have been trying to get a blog site off the ground for a few years now, but it’s one of these things that I keep making incremental progress in, but that progress is in steps that are sometimes months or years apart. Ugh. I am fairly close though.

I’ve completed Hillsdale College’s Constitution 101 course, and am one lesson away from completing 201. I read my Bible daily. I pray every day. But, I still feel woefully ill-equipped.

Anyway, I don’t know how to conclude this, so I guess I’ll stop here. I just hope that God does something inside of me such that I’ll be able to do whatever it is I’m supposed to do so I don’t have to watch the project the founders sacrificed so much for swirl down the drain, and actually have something to present to God on Judgment Day.

    Keith,
Be blessed by a lesson I learned from watching a video of a grandson who was learning to walk. As you know, little guys are very unsteady on their feet, not to mention the struggle they have in getting on those feet in the first place. This one would finally manage to get upright and almost immediately fall onto his well-padded bottom. The interesting thing is that once he was able to stand more than about 5 seconds, a big grin would overtake his whole face and he would clap his hands, as if personally cheering his victory. This was repeated each time he stood; and, of course, those intervals of standing became longer and longer and then became the impetus for taking those first feeble steps until he could walk… Of course, in the videos we could hear Mommy and Daddy in the background cheering him on – knowing that ultimately he would achieve the combination of skills necessary for victory.
As I was watching, GOD spoke to my heart letting me know that He has that same vision of victory for each of us. He sees the end from the beginning and knows that every movement we make, despite how unstable it may appear, strengthens our muscles, increases our stability and is one step closer to victory. GOD’s standing within and before us to cheer us on and also to give us the internal guidance, determination and ability we need to succeed. He wants us to do just what the grandson was doing – cheering, smiling and delighting in each instance of success. It doesn’t matter to GOD how many times we fall down or at which age we finally “walk.” GOD does want us to keep pressing forward and thanking Him for all He’s doing to get us to where we need to be. Often, we may begin something feeling ill-prepared to accomplish the goal and that happens when we venture forth without first sitting in the “secret place” simply to enjoy GOD’s presence. The defeated foe may try to make us think that it’s “one step forward, 2 back,” but that’s a LIE! As we take the time to enjoy GOD’s presence, we find encouragement and guidance in taking one step at a time and every step breeds progress.
Keith, GOD has given you amazing gifts, talents, abilities, creativity and purpose. As you focus first on Him, revelation and determination will continue to follow. You read your Bible, pray daily and have been praying once a week at least for over six years for our nation in a corporate setting. Sometimes, we may have the impression that we need to “debate” things and yet often don’t really have sufficient information nor perspective to present our “sides” in a favorable way. That is why we share our testimonies rather than debate issues. We want to share those things GOD has done to bring us personal transformation. When we share stories about how GOD has enabled us to take control over a hot temper or turn our backs on a temptation, those stories are irrefutable and they bring glory to the Father – something that pleases Him! And, when we read scriptures, as you do daily, simply to understand Him more completely and listen to Him more competently, we continue to bring Him pleasure. He wants us to get to know Him and thereby become like Him. Sounds like pretty nice rewards – HIM!! Keep on keeping on and may GOD continue to bless you as you pursue Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.

Keith, I agree with Mrs. D. and want to add the following. You have been in training for the mission God has planned for you. Our nation is in a war for its very soul.
As you continue to seek Him, He will lead you to do whatever He has called you to do. God doesn’t look at the outward appearance. He looks at the heart. He sees your concerns for our country and He knows you have a desire to please Him. He will take that and turn it into what His plan is for you.

Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus to pray for my City of Tulsa. Lord it appears Your ways are far removed from the thoughts of our elected officials and representative form of governing has been replaced by unelected committees and chambers. Father, it is Your shoulders on which governments are to form and so i pray for all those in places of prominence to have their hearts turned to You o Holy God. Our schools are a mess, gambling, alcohol and marijuana dispensaries are on every corner along with prostitution and trafficking rings. O Lord, there is nothing hidden from Your awareness. We have removed You from the education system and public square and where You are not, chaos has formed. Lord, hear our cries of repentance beginning in the church for many sit on boards that have allowed such businesses to litter main streets, openly condoning lifestyles of sin. What an abomination to You. And yet Lord, we know that You are Sovereign over all things, You have allowed for this mess as an opportunity to return to You as we repent and have faith. Gather, we need healing in our land, here in the city and counry of Tulsa, I am lifting up to You the needs, and pray You turn the hearts of men to accomplish Your will on Earth as it is in Heaven, lead us not into temptation, and deliver from evil that has crept in. In Jesus mighty name, Amen

Vicki, this week I have repeatedly shared my testimony of attending the Handel’s Messiah Sing-Along there in Tulsa back in 2010, what a wonderful experience it was! Imagine my surprise, now, hearing your plea to the Father, for your city. I’m in tears and asked the Father to count the righteousness of those sing-alongs to Tulsa’s account and declaring that the city’s sentence for it’s sins is UP, DONE, COMPLETE, FINISHED, PAID IN FULL – FREED FROM ITS BONDAGE!
I don’t even know what that means for Tulsa – I’ve never experienced this before. But I’m elated! Glory to God!! Hallelujah!
