A Connecticut faith-based pregnancy care center has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the city of Hartford over its ordinance that is compelling the pro-life ministry to disclose whether its staff holds medical licenses.

The complaint states that “The City of Hartford has enacted an Ordinance that forces Mobile Care to make compelled statements on signs both outside and inside its facility, on its website, and over the telephone in conversations with clients or potential clients. These compelled statements incorrectly imply that Mobile Care is not qualified to provide the free services it offers. ”

Alliance Defending Freedom has an excellent one-page summary. Here is an excerpt:

Caring Family Pregnancy Services is a private, faith-based, non-profit organization that offers
free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, options counseling, adoption referrals, parenting classes, Bible studies,
support groups, and material resources like baby clothes, diapers, cribs, and car seats to women in the
Hartford area. Caring Families also runs a mobile pregnancy care center called Mobile Care, which is operated
out of a mobile unit and makes regularly scheduled visits to Hartford and other communities in Connecticut.
Seeking to turn women away from this free, life-affirming help, however, the City of Hartford enacted
Ordinance No. 25-17 in 2017. Applying only to pro-life organizations, the ordinance forces pro-life
pregnancy help locations to post signage and begin conversations with a City-determined disclaimer that
incorrectly implies the centers are not qualified to provide the free services they offer because there is not a
medical provider on site at all times. The city threatens $100 per day in fines for noncompliance with the
ordinance, which went into effect four months after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a similar attempt to
compel pro-life speech in NIFLA v. Becerra. . . .

The Bottom Line: Pregnancy centers should be free to serve women and offer the support they need
without fear of unjust government punishment.

Lord, clear the way physically and employ strength and wisdom from Your Holy Spirit to let all women be educated on the very alive babies they carry in their bodies. Expose the abortions performed in doctor’s offices and in hospitals under the guise of “missed spontaneous miscarriages” . I worked in a Woman’s Hospital in the 1980s using this to hide abortions. I saw 3-5 women get elective abortions daily. I saw a baby born intact and moving and breathing. I shouted ” this baby is alive! Never the less I was escorted out and put in a different surgical suite. We need to stand up! Many abortions are hidden. God shed Your light on ALL ABORTIONS! Open each woman’s heart and turn it toward the fact of the separate, living baby they carry. May the Lord bless Pro -life and the souls of all involved. Through Jesus’ Name, Amen

This ordinance is ironic given the recent comment by a former
employee of Planned Parenthood that in her clinic that the employees were just high school graduates. Yet these fountains of wisdom were deemed competent to advise others on life and death issues. I pray that the court recognizes the Hartford ordinance as blatant discrimination designed to promote their personal beliefs on abortion. Lord, for the sake of all the babies and families which can be saved, defeat this ungodly ordinance. Amen.
