I Prayed have prayed
Heavenly Father, help us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly always putting You first.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Recently, I kept seeing a particular ad pop up on my Facebook feed. Day after day it made me curious. Finally, after about the third day of seeing it, I decided to click on it. I watch for 10 minutes. I clicked on their links, and I even went to their website.

And I was so frustrated!

For the life of me, I could not figure out what these people were about. They were speaking in innuendos and generalizations to such a degree that I couldn’t tell if they were pro-capitalism or actually pro-socialism. But one clue struck out. The phrase “social justice.“

Do you find it both confusing and frustrating when the phrase “social justice” is thrown around in Christian circles?

Given my young adult background with liberal ideologies, I am particularly alert to that nebulous phrase. For many, it is simply a codeword for other politically-correct progressive ideologies. But for some Christians, when they say social justice, they mean something different.

So my point today is really four-fold:

  1. Watch out when you’re reading articles and links online.Sometimes the true ideology and principles of those penning the writing is not what you think it is.
  2. The phrase “social justice“ has for the most part been hijacked!Even though Doug and I and our whole family are deeply committed to the problems of poverty and community decline as we minister at our church, I do not agree with most of my Christian brothers and sisters’ methodology of social justice. How sad.
  3. Our God is a God of justice! We cannot throw in the towel on the whole phrase simply because the progressives have tried to hijack a spiritual concept.

Check out these verses about the topic:

He has shown you, o mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

-Micah 6:8

“For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them.”

-Isaiah 61:8

  1. Sometimes the phrase “social justice” is even used as a weapon.

This requires correct biblical study and spiritual alertness. I’m praying that my heart would not grow hardened to true works of justice even as I am dismayed by the false justice moves in our nation.

Father give your people discernment about what is termed social justice. May we test things by your word and not be drawn into false understanding of serving you and others. May we not become calloused to helping others by the false use of social justice. May we serve you by serving others.

Yes Lord, may You give us Your spiritual eyes to see the things of this world from Your law, from Natural law and not from man’s laws and viewpoints of right and wrong. May we trust in Your Sovereignty that the world will not be destroyed by man in 12 yrs, and choose the correct side of an issue but carefully studying Your Word, praying and asking You for answers with pure motives in our heart, and a willingness to submit to You as our Lord and Savior and not buckle to the fear of man in following the mob rule of social media. Lord may You alone be glorified, and may there be a complete shift of forces in our nation as to what is truly the important issues of the day, serving You and serving others while sharing the good news of the Gospel of Christ Jesus. Amen
