I Prayed have prayed
God, we are so thankful that the UMC voted for the truth of Your Word. Strengthen true believers everywhere to know the truth and walk in it.

The United Methodist Church will maintain its official position that homosexuality is contrary to Christian teaching, in a decision following days of contentious debate over the issue.

For the past several years, the UMC has been embroiled in an emotional debate over whether to change its stance, as outlined in its Book of Discipline, labeling homosexuality “incompatible with Christian teaching.”

Delegates at the UMC special session of General Conference, representing all of the global denomination, voted Tuesday to reject a measure called the “One Church Plan,” which would have allowed regional bodies of the denomination to determine their position on homosexuality.

Instead, delegates approved the “Traditional Plan” in a vote of 438-384. The Plan maintains the denomination’s stance against homosexuality, gay marriage, and the ordination of noncelibate homosexuals while promising to better enforce those rules.

Many delegates offered their opinions on the floor as to which plan they preferred. Ble Leon Nathan Ake of Cote D’Ivoire argued in favor of the Traditional Plan.

“The Bible tells us that we need to stay faithful to the Word,” he said through an interpreter. “It’s God’s plan, it’s the will of God, it is the biblical way.”(From Christian Post article on UMC vote)

During the UMC’s years-long debate over homosexuality, African delegates at General Conference have been a key factor in maintaining the denomination’s stance that homosexual acts are sinful. (From Christian Post article on UMC African bishops)

I am stunned at how many voted to accept homosexuality and all that goes with it! What in the WORD of God could they find to believe God has changed His mind and agree with the world view? God is the same yesterday, today and forever! The Bible is so clear that it is a sin. The early church was dealing with the same thing and there is plenty of direction on how to deal with the issue! Living a life of choosing to sin every day. It is the same for any sexual sin outside of marriage.
Thank the Lord they voted for Traditional but I am seriously concerned for those willing to compromise the Truth!

I celebrate God’s faithfulness and the faithfulness & bravery of your (our) African brothers & sisters in the vote that was taken! BUT YOU MUST KEEP PRAYING AND BEING VIGILANT AND BEING INVOLVED EVERY WAY THE LORD LEADS! I speak from experience… and I know that you know…but do not rest in your prayers. The liberals for a lack of a better word, will NOT STOP. We lost the battle in the Episcopal Church. In all the ways mentioned above the Scriptures were compromised. But politically…sadly there’s such a dynamic in our churches…their strategy is being relentless. Practically it was what I call incrementalism: just a slight change here one year and another a few years later (beware, it gains momentum as some of the faithful get discouraged and depart). For us the slide was codifying (in church law) just predisposition toward homosexuality …but not actual behavior. Then, it was permissiveness as long as it was in non-serial relationships. Then it was only in committed relationships: step by step by step…until it was for actual marriage…and leadership. As with you all, our African brothers helped us immensely after our national church fully acquiesced. They gave us refuge and episcopal (bishops’) oversight until we formed our own biblically faithful body (the Anglican Church in North America). And now in many places in the African church the American church is attempting to seduce them with much needed funds. God bless the Africans: in the face of great need many have said “We don’t want your money!”

I’m very thankful for the stand the church is taking. I pray that the congregants of UMC will submit to this counsel for it is the WORD of the Lord. Yes, we are to show love to those who embrace this life style but we are not to accept the practice as God’s will for mankind. May the Church remain strong in these days of political correctness and stand for what is holy and righteous in God’s eyes. God requires 3 things of His people “to act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly before our God. May He give us the grace to stay faithful to His commands.

This is not a time for the UMC to sit back and relax. Those opposed to the truth of God’s Word will not stop pushing their agenda just because you had more votes. It’s time for the church to be the church. And the place to begin is found in the scripture, 2 Chronicles 7:14. God says this: If My people who are called by My name (that’s us, the leadership and the people sitting in the pews), will (1) humble themselves and (2) pray and (3) seek my face and (4) turn from THEIR wicked ways, then I will (1) hear from heaven, (2) will forgive their sins and (3) heal their land.
It’s up to us, the whole church.not just the UMC. If we all do our part, then God will do His as this is a CONDITIONAL promise. This scripture applies to every evil thing that’s going on in our country. Unfortunately, we have allowed ourselves to be lulled to sleep and the enemy has come in and sown much evil and havoc, we’ve become complacent, apathetic and like the world. Most of all, many of us have left our first love, Jesus. If we don’t want evil/the devil to win then we must be obedient to the Word of God; for our sakes and that of our children and grandchildren. He is waiting for us to come to Him. May we all know how much our heavenly Father loves us—-just look at what Jesus did for you.

Jesus, help us respond as you would to the gay man, and the lesbian. You would love them, treat them with respect. You would perhaps bring out the reason why a homosexual choice was made by the individual. you would keep truth whole, for it is holy, and only whole and unchanged can it save an individual. Jesus, you are truth and you are love. Cause us to walk in your spirit so that speaking the truth in love is possible in any encounter you give us. I praise you for the Methodist choice to stand on this truth. In Jesus name, Amen

I too am so very grateful that the majority of delegates voted for the Methodist Church to remain loyal to the Word of God. I am also thankful that the Church leadership including clergy and Bishops are not allowed to vote because, in that case, the traditional plan would never have passed. For the United Methodist Church to remain true to ALL of God’s Word, then what do we do about the progressive leadership who will continue to push for these radical ideas?

Looking at the numbers (438-384) we see that cancer is rife in this body. If you add the “clergy” with their overwhelming liberal views, you have a body that is sick unto death. To have a body that is 50% or more cancerous, does not represent a healthy body, let alone a victory. My UMC pastor in the 1960s called the Garden of Eden and Jonah “fables.” The denomination went to pot long ago. Since most of this body does not want to healed biblically, I cannot understand why Bible believers still think they can rescue this denomination. God help us.

Doug, agreed. This same vote was taken in 2016. When the current generation of “traditional” delegates is gone, the rainbow delegates will win, barring a miracle intervention by God. The “victory” is only a temporary delay. God can only judge, what else, according to His Word, can we expect?

As Paul greats the church in Romans 1:8…”First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.” I too, thank my God through Yeshua, Jesus Christ, for our African Brothers and Sisters in Christ for their boldness in standing up in faith in Christ to speak God’s truth “The Bible tells us that we need to stay faithful to the Word,” he said through an interpreter. “It’s God’s plan, it’s the will of God, it is the biblical way.”(From Christian Post article on UMC vote)

Thank God for our African brothers and sisters who had not bowed to the gods of political correctness in these divided states of America! My heart grieves Holy God, for how we have been silent as your standards for holiness have been allowed to descend into the gutters of immorality. God convict our hearts of tolerating sin. May we grow deeply in your Word and pour out your Spirit to convict us of our hard heartedness or indifference toward obedience! Lord we need you to empower us to stand firm in our faith!

I am very thankful for this decision I have been a United Methodist all my life (almost 79) and could hardly bear the thought of my denomination voting against the Scriptures Millions were praying and my church held weekly prayer meetings the 7 weeks leading up to the conference

Yes, thank God more than enough delegates looked to the Bible for the guidance it is to be as the Word of God to put down the vote for this.
We must stand together and pray for and approve what is good and right in God’s eyes and according to God’s laws, given to man to live by. Look to the Bible for the definItion of a marriage, it is a union of a man and a woman. I, too, would have thought there would have been a larger margin of the votes upholding the Bibles teachings. WE need to increase our numbers if we are to maintain our stance on this. Keep praying for believers to take a stand and be heard and followed as the disciples were.

Thank God for the African delegates! Without their votes for God’s Biblical Truth, would the “Traditional Plan” still have won? Certainly we had hoped for a greater majority than 54 votes for the Lord out of 822 total votes. It appears God has used delegates from nations other than America to save the UMC. God bless our righteous African brothers–and God have mercy on us.

I give praise to God for the stand taken by the delegates at the United Methodist Conference. I have several friends who are pastors within that denomination who have shared their views with me and were concerned that the decision would change the Biblical and traditional. Many times over the years I have prayed with them that this decision would turn out just as it did. Thank God for the confirmation that was given to the Scriptures by the delegates.

Yes, thank GOD UNC takes a firm stand for the WORDS of GOD.If, we claim to be Christians we all must stick to the WORDS in the Bible.
If God’s WORD says it,it’s GUARANTEED. We have NO right to change it.
We are to love them and judge them, but not condemn them, nor do we have to live with them in this practice. It is their choice not ours and we do not have to answer for their way of life, only how we react. There are consequenes for the choices we choose before our maker one of these days.

Precious Heavenly Father, Thank You for the UMC taking a Biblical stand on the Truth of Your Word. I pray You will bless them for honoring You and Your Word. Father, I pray that the churches that claim to be Christian will seek Your face and be obedient to teach the Truth of Your Word. We know there are churches who are compromising the Truth and telling their congregations that it is all right to have same sex marriage. We know that the Bible calls that an abomination. Father, protect everyone who is seeking Your Truth from being taught these lies. Let Your Word go forth in Truth and Power to set the captives free. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen

Thank you Lord for this decision made by the First Methodist Church. God bless the Africans for standing firm for their convictions. Lord intercede for those who opposed this decision and reveal
Truth to all Christians. So many in the churches are not having time for Bible Study. Bring us all back to the beautiful Word of truth.
    Amen!

Thank you Lord, that your watchmen United Methodists, showed their love for you by upholding the biblical standard for sex. This also fulfilled the requirements of Ezekiel 34, the chapter on watchmen. Use them for your glory, since the have shown faithfulness in this matter.
