I Prayed have prayed
Father God, help us be wise about the many proposed laws that are touted as good and fair and just, but are contrary to Your standards. Help our nation, Lord.

When both our friends at the Family Research Council and leaders at the Human Rights Campaign – one of LGBT activists’ flagship organizations – come out strong against new legislation purporting to defend religious freedom, it turns heads. At least, it turned my head when FRC President Tony Perkins issued a statement blasting a new “Fairness for All” bill as “near-total surrender to the aggressive LGBT agenda.” Similarly, HRC joined together with the ACLU and other “progressive” groups to call this legislation an “an affront to existing civil rights protections” and “deeply dangerous.”

What is this bill that could stir such passionate responses? It is new legislation sponsored by Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) that attempts to diffuse the battle between religious freedom rights and concerns for fair treatment of people who identify as gay or transgender.

You may remember that the U.S. House of Representatives approved the so-called “Equality Act” (H.R. 5) in May. That dangerous legislation is a “winner-take-all” bill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had promised to LGBT activists during the 2018 election cycle. It not only elevates “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” (SOGI) to specially protected categories in broad swaths of civil rights law, but it also allows no quarter for people with basic biblical beliefs about marriage and human sexuality. Actually, the “Equality Act” goes further. It specifically forbids those it would accuse of discrimination from appealing to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), a law signed by President Bill Clinton in 1993 and famously the basis for Hobby Lobby’s victory over the Obama Administration in 2014.

The “Fairness for All” (FFA) bill would similarly entrench new SOGI employment, housing, and public accommodation protections in U.S. law. However, not only would it leave RFRA intact, but also it would add new religious freedom language to defend the rights of churches, charities, adoption agencies, Christian colleges, and others to live in light of their faith. Rep. Stewart said, “This legislation allows us to settle the legal questions and get back to the business of loving our neighbors.”

At least that is the hope of the FFA’s supporters. FRC’s Tony Perkins and a host of other faith and freedom allies, including Alliance Defending Freedom and Focus on the Family, strongly disagree. Perhaps one of the best rebuttals last Friday came from Dr. Ryan Anderson of the Heritage Foundation who wrote:

Despite the undoubted good will of those who drafted and introduced the legislation, and despite some meaningful though insufficient protections for religious liberty, the bill is not in fact fair for all. Its protections for religious liberty come at the high cost of enshrining a misguided sexual and gender ideology into federal law. This will allow the federal government to use our civil rights laws as a sword to punish citizens who dissent from the reigning sexual orthodoxy.

In the spirit of fairness on my part, a link to an argument supporting FFA by the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is here. However, while I don’t doubt the sincerity of our fellow believers seeking a solution in FFA, count me very wary of this new bill. IFA intercessors know the dangers of LGBT extremists’ SOGI strategy. In fact, we issued a special report on this in June (get it here).

We need to be praying fervently for our nation about this matter. Specifically, we need to pray for our elected leaders. Democrats have already gone all in behind the devastating “Equality Act,” and I have no doubt Republicans at the highest levels are under intense pressure. Expect that pressure to increase during the 2020 campaign season, especially in May or June when the Supreme Court hands down its decision on whether or not current federal law already covers SOGI claims. America needs intercessors to stand in the gap now for a nation that will truly honor religious liberty and submit itself to the God’s intended purposes for marriage and human sexuality.

“If My people who are called by My Name shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I WILL hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. First, we have to humble ourselves.
Next, we have to pray.
Then we have to seek GOD’s face; are our ways causes Him to smile, or are we causing Him grief?
Then we have to turn from OUR wicked ways–Show us please LORD our personal faults and failings and grant us repentance that we would turn at your rebuke.
Individual repentance is the first order of business; then and only then will GOD hear from Heaven and heal our land. There is much to be repented of: let us ask GOD to search our own hearts, so that we can see clearly what HE wants to have done.

Father God, as we attempt to navigate these unfamiliar waters, I pray wisdom for all and compassion and clarity for those who don’t seem to “fit”, whether by choice, assumption, or in those very few cases, by birth. Let your law of love be preeminent, by not usurped by YOUR righteous judgement. Help us with understanding.

To a legal/political response, FFA continues to obscure the primary issue over “public accommodations”. These laws, while attempting to smooth “treatment” of “marginalized” individuals, do little to differentiate between true public services and those specifically contracted. These laws were a definite assist when helping society to understand unchangeable traits, but in our new culture of “chosen identities”, they are making a confusing mess not (usually) respecting the specific text and wisdom of the Constitution. Nothing will work with repeal or reconfiguration of these laws.

I pray to The God of all creation asking You to bring clarity to the minds of your people that are being overwhelmed with many and various laws from the federal level to the local level which I see as a tool of Satan to discourage many of these citizens to pull back from what they see as impossible to sifer and understand. Father help these folk to step back and turn all of these issues over to you allowing you to take care of that which they do not understand. I pray that they will realize that even though they do not understand, they can release it into Your hands and do this on a regular bases. Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you..”(NLT). This I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen!

Dearest God Almighty,
Your laws are clear and true and pure. You set them up for the good of sinful man. Please guide this nation to go back to studying your Word, and yo recognize you for who you are, Creator, Redeemer, and King!

Lord, help elected representatives see clearly the laws that do not honor You and our Biblical principals. The ultimate goal of these laws are to erase You from the picture. Your Word is living and powerful; discerning the thoughts and intents of a person’s heart. We stand in the gap for You.Help us, Lord, I pray.

Amid all the confusion and deceit surrounding this legislative issue, the last three paragraphs most clearly scream the importance and urgency of constantly and fervently praying NOW about this issue throughout at least the next 6 months, and ABSOLUTELY praying for all legislators concerning THIS and other issues. Especially scary to ME is the SUBLIMINAL deceptive sense of acceptability or goodness, which defies EVERYTHING GODLY for everyone, of all ages and all walks of life. “Pandora’s Box” comes devastatingly-eerily to mind. God, PLEASE help us!
