I Prayed have prayed
Lord, may our nation remember the values and principles of faith we were founded upon.

Our founders were far from perfect, but their revolutionary ideas birthed one of the best and freest nations in the world.

They understood that rights come from God and not man, which paved the way for America to be one of the first nations to abolish slavery. It was Christian leaders who led the charge to finally see these tragedies end in America. This is not meant to turn a blind eye to the horrors that occurred, but to highlight certain truths that are often overlooked.

Our founders understood that having a universal set of principles as the foundation of society was integral to our Republic enduring. The Bible was read in schools, prayer was encouraged in schools, and the Ten Commandments was posted in classrooms and courthouses. It’s only since the 1960’s that all references to God, prayer, and the Bible has been discouraged in the public square. America has been on a slippery slope every since.

It’s never too late for positive change, but a revitalization in these concepts is key. We are certainly seeing much good, but there is much to be done.

Here are a few key quotes of our founders:

Religion, morality and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.

– Excerpt from the Northwest Ordinance, 1787 by John Adams, Signer of the Declaration of Independence and Second President of the United States

It is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue.

[W]e have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. . . . Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

John Quincey Adams, Sixth President of the United States

The law given from Sinai was a civil and municipal as well as a moral and religious code; it contained many statutes . . . of universal application-laws essential to the existence of men in society, and most of which have been enacted by every nation which ever professed any code of laws.

It’s not about everyone being a Christian to live here. It’s recognizing that adhering to the values and principles of the faith actually promotes good government, civility in the public square, and freedom for all. It has worked for over 200 years and we need it to continue!

I’m wondering if there would be fewer school shootings if “Thou
shalt not kill” was posted in the hallway as part of the Ten Commandments. I used to think that the likelihood of a killing was remote in my life, but now I see God’s wisdom foresaw long ago how easily people could become killers and that they needed constant reminders to abstain. Then again, what if “Thou shalt not kill” was posted where a girl in high school was dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. God knows that we will face challenges in life. There is so much wisdom
in the Bible on how to handle hard times and hard choices. I pray that schools will turn back to God and understand that their upbeat cute slogans are no match for the wisdom and eternal vigilance of God. In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Godly character is a requirement for liberty. Sin is not liberty, it
is bondage, the opposite of liberty. Temptation conceives and brings forth sin. Sin, after its’ had its way with you brings forth death.
The rule of sin brings death and destruction and God’s judgement.
With all those factors working against a people, liberty gets lost
in the shuffle. The survival of liberty is tied up in revival;
without moral and spiritual renewal, tyranny comes to chasten the corrupt.
