I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Heavenly Father, we ask that you help our nation to deal righteously with matters of state. We are truly at Your mercy as we move forward in this year’s 116th Congressional agenda.

Two state legislators prayed with IFA intercessors on the First Friday Prayer Conference Call Friday, January 4, 2019. It was powerful and encouraging to pray with them. You can pray with them—click HERE.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.  (Prv 1:7)

The new, 116th Congress includes the first two Muslim women ever to serve in the House of Representatives, and is, overall, slightly more religiously diverse than the prior Congress.

There has been a 3-percentage-point decline in the share of members of Congress who identify as Christian – in the 115th Congress, 91% of members were Christian, while in the 116th, 88% are Christian. There are also four more Jewish members, one additional Muslim and one more Unitarian Universalist in the new Congress – as well as eight more members who decline to state their religious affiliation (or lack thereof).

While the number of self-identified Christians in Congress has ticked down, Christians as a whole – and especially Protestants and Catholics – are still overrepresented in proportion to their share in the general public. Indeed, the religious makeup of the new, 116th Congress is very different from that of the United States population.

Within Protestantism, certain groups are particularly numerous in the new Congress, including Methodists, Anglicans/Episcopalians, Presbyterians and Lutherans. Additionally, Protestants in the “unspecified/other” category make up just 5% of the U.S. public, but 15% of Congress….

But by far the largest difference between the U.S. public and Congress is in the share who are unaffiliated with a religious group. In the general public, 23% say they are atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular.” In Congress, just one person – Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., who was recently elected to the Senate after three terms in the House – says she is religiously unaffiliated, making the share of “nones” in Congress 0.2%.

When asked about their religious affiliation, a growing number of members of Congress decline to specify (categorized as “don’t know/refused”). This group – all Democrats – numbers 18, or 3% of Congress, up from 10 members (2%) in the 115th Congress….

These are some of the findings from an analysis by Pew Research Center of CQ Roll Call data on the religious affiliations of members of Congress, gathered through questionnaires and follow-up phone calls to members’ and candidates’ offices. The CQ questionnaire asks members what religious group, if any, they belong to. It does not attempt to measure their religious beliefs or practices…. (Excerpts from the Pew Research Center)

Father God, we would ask you to compel all those in Congress who report to be Christian, to attend the Bible Study and Prayer meeting on the Hill. I would ask that you would bring to the forefront a personal relationship with you in their lives over just religion. We see the works of Congress, and it is a far cry from you heart, especially their devastating legislation against the unborn. Empower those Congress Persons who uphold the right of the unborn, have worked so hard to expose the Deep State, and who unabashedly stand by our President and uphold our Constitution. In Jesus name, Amen

O Lord, holy and true, who first loved us with a sacrificial love, bare many legislators on eagles wings and bring them to yourself. Place a right spirit in them and revive them for the glory of your name. Cause many to learn of you and your righteousness. May your will be done in Washington, D.C. and the state capitals. May righteousness expand as the knowledge of You increases. May your prayer army pray through the above listed items, remembering your sacrificial love. May you accomplish great things through lawmakers at your convenience.

HeavenlyFather, I thank you that you are with us through every situation. I thank you that you will be with every person serving in our government. I pray that they will each remember that they serve our citizens and that you will guide them through this process. I pray for President Trump — it seems that he has some Godly advisors. I pray that he will listen and act accordingly. I pray for mercy for those serving in government especially right now — with government shutdown issues. Let this not be a battle of wills and party lines. Humble the prideful and ‘Your will be done. In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, You tell us to pray for all who are in authority that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Father, I ask that You would give us godly leaders who seek to do Your will and glorify You throughout our country. May Thy Kingdom come and may Thy will be done in every state in the USA.
Your Word also says You desire all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the Truth. I pray for those in our government who do not know You or have rejected You. I pray that they will receive a true revelation of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for us all. May all of our leaders in the federal and state governments come to know You. May we serve You as our Lord and Savior. Amen
