I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: 2 minutes

As believers continue to see Christianity and godly beliefs mocked in the public square, how are we to respond? What else can we do when natural and spiritual enemies curse us and accuse us of wrong-doing? Though there are times to repent, declare the word of God, and stand firm in battle, there is yet another option according to Scripture, and that is – to LAUGH.

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them” (Psalm 2:1-4, NIV).

As intercessors have been faithfully standing in the gap for this nation, many battles have been won and many prayers have been answered. God has already stated His purposes, and we have been told to stand firm (Eph. 6:13).

The “accuser of the brethren,” however, wants us to think he still has the upper hand. He has a habit of bringing up past defeats to weaken our resolve and make us doubt God’s promises (Gal. 5:1). Once we have made our case before the Lord and have been assured of His purposes, there is no reason to doubt or give in to the tantrums of the enemy. Once God has spoken, and we agree, nothing can stop the King’s advance.

Because the accuser has no access to laughter and the joy of the Lord, all he can do is mock (Psalm 89:50-52). Those who stand against God and His ways will continue to mock those who know their King. The good news is that the joy of the Lord truly is our strength – and a potent weapon!

“The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming” (Psalm 37:12-13 NIV).

As we continue to stand in the gap and intercede as the Lord directs, let us also remember to recognize the accuser’s tactics and not fall for his lies. If we truly see things as God does, there’s nothing too big for the Lord and no way the enemy will ever be able to defeat those who stand on the side of righteousness. The enemy’s attempts are truly – laughable.

“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’ The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy” (Psalm 126:2 NIV).

I am a young pastor and the enemy came into our sanctuary and launched an attack that was violently filled with hatred and anger against Gods church. At the time I needed someone to talk to so I called a sister in Christ for encouragement but instead she laughed as I told her about the attack and as I was talking to her she was rudely talking to her daughter which I feel on her behalf showed off be inconsiderate. I know that laughter is a weapon but I feel that here laughter was out of order.

Thanks so much for the article. I agree that laughter is a weapon that God uses for spiritual warfare and brings gladness to the soul at the same time.

May the people of the world, who think our faith is slavery, see that it is a delight and joy to us! May our gladness proclaim that we serve a good Master.–Charles Spurgeon

I love this, what a great reminder of the “joy of the Lord is my strength” in this time of national peril. Help us Lord to defy confusion and fear with a joyful laugh of utter confidence in our Lord God Almighty. In Jesus name, Amen

Great article with an incredible timely message. Those who mock can only mock because they honestly have no joy and no ability to find true laughter which is a powerful and healing medicine. As children of God, we can not let our hearts grow cold with the ugliness all around us or the enemy of our soul wins. Yet many of us are frustrated with not wanting to compromise our moral standards, laughter is a wonderful response. If God can laugh at the wicked, we can certainly laugh at responses of the many confused and misguided that are unknowingly working for the enemy. We should not mock them but laugh at their awkward and confused attempts to destroy the one thing that could save them and bring them the joy, peace and righteousness they so desperately need.

I thank God, He has given us the ability to laugh even in times of trouble..it is a gift that does the heart good. Thank You Holy Father that You are giving us answers through your word that can guide us in todays upside down world.

Thank You Dear Lord,

I have been having the same scripture come in my spirit, Psalm 126:2 joy is spiritual because we know, that we have a host of angelic armies fighting for us. God is with us where ever we go. God will get the glory if we keep our eyes on Him, and not is going on in the world. What the enemy do, he is already defeated, thats why he is raging wars. He wants to keep man and nations captive, But God has the final say.

I think it may be beyond Laughter from the soul. The joy of the Lord is our strength, that Joy would be from the Spirit.

AMEN! Thank you, Wanda. Such a great perspective! I’m reminded of Galatians 6:7:
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” God always wins.
