I Prayed have prayed
Jesus, we pray You would calm the storm and protect people from floods and high winds. We pray for minimal impact from this hurricane.

Hurricane Dorian gained strength in the Atlantic Wednesday night, and millions of people in Florida were warned to be ready for its impact. “Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane on Friday, and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through the weekend,” the National Hurricane Center said Thursday morning.

Dorian could be a Category 4 storm when it makes landfall Monday, CBS News weather producer David Parkinson reports. The storm could have maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.

Landfall could happen anywhere along Florida’s Atlantic coast, Parkinson reports. The storm rolled over the Virgin Islands Wednesday, hitting St. Thomas with wind gusts of up to 100 mph.

Puerto Rico escaped with no serious damage. The Federal Emergency Management Agency was relocating teams from Puerto Rico to the U.S. mainland, “CBS This Morning” lead national correspondent David Begnaud reports.

A state of emergency has been declared in Florida. People along the state’s east coast were rushing to load up on water, food and emergency supplies.

As of 11 a.m. EDT Thursday, Dorian’s center was some 220 miles north-northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico, as it headed northwest at 13 mph, the hurricane center said. Dorian’s sustained winds were 85 mph, with higher gusts.

The National Hurricane Center warned early Thursday that heavy rain from Dorian could cause “life-threatening flash floods” in parts of the Bahamas and southeastern U.S. coast.

The center forecast 2-4 inches of rain in some parts of the Bahamas, with six inches in isolated spots, and 4-8 inches with an upside of a foot in other areas of the Bahamas and coastal southeastern U.S.

Parkinson pointed out that, “With a new supermoon and the angle the storm is approaching from, widespread coastal flooding, including severe coastal flooding is likely. In addition, as the storm is coming in for landfall, it looks like it might lose some of the steering currents,” slowing it down and resulting in even more rain….

Heavenly Father, in the Name of Your Son, Jesus, we, the people of Florida, affirm and declare, with thanks, that You are our Shield, our Fortress, and our deliverer. We also declare that the name of Jesus is above every other name that is named. As your delegated authority, we forbid access of the spirit of destruction to our state and coastlands of our nation. We command that you, hurricane Dorian, to bow your knee and acknowledge the supremacy of The Lord Jesus Christ and religuish your strength in obedience to Him, who is over all rule, authority, and every name. Amen

Dear Lord please help people of the Bahamas and Florida. May this hurricane not hurt anyone and may the damage be minimal. Lord it seems You bring people to You in times of disaster. May people turn to You for protection at this time but may they continue to turn towards You with sincere repentance. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
