I Prayed have prayed
Father God, you are infinitely creative! Thank you for this church--bless their services and outreach. Lord, what do you want me to do?

Pastor Ken Peters was faithfully leading his small church in Washington’s northeast city of Spokane when a guest preacher’s Sunday sermon grabbed his heart and prompted an unexpected response. That providential moment led to the creation of “The Church at Planned Parenthood” (TCAPP), a monthly gathering of Christians from various churches to worship God, boldly preach the Gospel message, and to spend time in corporate prayer repenting for this nation and the church’s role in the abortion holocaust…all while standing together outside a Planned Parenthood clinic.

I spoke with Pastor Ken to learn more about the story of TCAPP and to understand the spiritual implications that the unforeseen church plant is now having nationwide. Here is an edited transcript of our conversation.

Tell me about the pivotal moment that started TCAPP.

So Rev. Rusty Thomas (Operation Save America) miraculously came to our church to stir us up about the issues of life and the murder of the unborn that’s going on in our nation. And he was preaching on when Jesus said: “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” And I could tell this sermon was to activate, to get the church doing something. So he says, if you have any worship leaders, have them go out to Planned Parenthood with a guitar and just start worshipping. If you have any intercessors, just get them out there praying. If you have any preachers, get them out there and just preach. And I thought you know what? That sounds like church: preaching, worship, and prayer. I really felt like the Lord spoke to me and said: “don’t you dare plant another regular church until your next church campus is the church at Planned Parenthood, an outdoor church.” I got up after the sermon, all fired up, and I announced to the congregation that our next church is going to be a church at Planned Parenthood!

My guess is there was surprise and even concern after your passionate proclamation. Describe the reaction.

Well, my wife looked at me like I was crazy! And Rev Thomas, I’ll never forget what he did. He literally bent over, his jaw hit the ground and he said he had never heard of such an idea…it was so simple, yet so profound because he had just pressed the message that the church will win against the gates of hell. The rest of the church didn’t know what to think! Quite frankly, after I made the announcement it was one of those things you hear clearly at the moment and then you begin to doubt. I was afraid. And you go all through those emotions and wonder will anyone even show up. My church was supportive but they just waited to see if I would follow through on my promise and keep my word.

Two months later, in October 2018, you held the first service of the new church plant. What happened?

I was expecting my wife and maybe twenty people, maybe a couple of elders and deacons from the church because they felt obligated. But one hundred and seventy-five people came for the first service! When you’re expecting twenty and a hundred and seventy-five people show up, to me it was like the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life,” where people just keep coming in and giving and giving. I literally couldn’t believe we were at Planned Parenthood and people kept coming from every direction. The church was so gracious and precious and they just followed their crazy leader and did something in response.

Describe the atmosphere at a TCAPP service.

It’s electric! You can literally feel the spiritual warfare when you first get there. When it gets close to the time to start, people are coming in from everywhere because you have to park in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk in because Planned Parenthood is not going to let you park in their parking lot, they don’t like you being there. But it’s what the church should look like, people coming in from every direction and converging on this one spot right by Planned Parenthood. When you show up, the police are there with 5-8 police cars with lights flashing. There have been barricades put up on both sides because we’ve attracted a number of protestors, primarily from the LGBTQ community. They are very angry folks so the police separate them with barricades. They are on one side of the street and we’re on the other. There are people screaming at you. It’s like no other church service you’ve been to in your life.

Some might wonder if you are there protesting Planned Parenthood. Is your worship service directed toward Planned Parenthood?

Great question. Our messaging is very important to us. We are very strong on the fact that we are not a protest. We are simply having church. We do not engage with the protestors, we’re not there to speak with them. We are there to call upon the Lord. It’s spiritual warfare, not warfare of the flesh. Our motto is “this is how we fight our battles,” like the song. So we ask people not to bring signs. We don’t want to look like a protest. The secular press tries to label us a protest but we are not a protest. We are having church, we’re a church plant, planted at the gates of hell, believing that the gates of hell will not prevail.

You are following the model of worship, prayer, and preaching but is your preaching geared towards pro-life issues?

It’s naturally going to be more focused on the life issue because you’re right next to their building. We don’t tell the preachers what to preach. If they want to preach the Gospel, oftentimes that’s just what they do. The whole idea is to do what we do on a Sunday morning. Let’s take what we’re good at the assembly of the saints and let’s take it outside and have outdoor church right there at a Planned Parenthood. You don’t need to say why. A picture is worth a thousand words when you have Christians out there worshipping God. You don’t need to say one thing about life, but everyone knows why you are there.

TCAPP is growing across the country and there are other locations replicating what you started. Talk about your vision as this church is gaining attention and more people are learning about it.

My vision is that the bushel, or the basket depending on what Bible verse you are reading, is taken off the church. We’re sitting in our safe spaces under our roofs, but Jesus said you are the light of the world, a city on a hill. Either keep your light under a bushel or let your light shine before men that they might see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. So my vision is that the bushel would be taken off the church of Jesus Christ and the church would be worshipping outdoors all across the land in front of Planned Parenthood or close to any abortion mill because Jesus loves kids and said whoever receives a child in my name receives me. Almost all revival has happened outdoors. So my ultimate goal is to see revival and see the church activate.

Why do you think the church has been largely silent on abortion?

I think it’s become a political issue and it’s become a political football. Churches want to reach everyone. But they’ve let a good motive destroy their prophetic voice. And in an attempt to reach people, they’ve stayed away from issues that might chase people away. Instead of realizing that Christ himself is the truth and we don’t need to be afraid of the truth because that is Christ himself. They’ve stayed away from these issues because it’s controversial, they’ve become Republican or Democrat issues. What we have to do is ignore the fact that it has become a political football because these are biblical issues. John the Baptist leapt for joy in the womb of Elisabeth when Jesus was in the womb of Mary and came into the room. There’s activity in the womb itself. We as the church need to recognize these are biblical issues. We’ve been given this great country, it’s “we the people,” so we have to be stewards of this nation as well. We need to be a prophetic voice in the wilderness. If people want Jesus, they’re going to want the truth too. I think we can speak truth boldly and not hatefully. The Devil, he’s a deceiver, and he has the church duped into silence and he likes it that way.

What has been the biggest cost to you in starting TCAPP? What’s been the biggest gain?

The biggest cost has been the slander of our character. A year ago I was just a pastor with a cute family and cute church and a cute Christian school. Now I found out in the last year that even though I haven’t changed anything of my beliefs, or my family or anything, I’m now labeled a hateful, bigot, extremist that is a danger to society. The left is going to try to do everything they can to make you an extremist. My name is now mentioned multiple times at city council meetings as dangerous and hateful. The LGBTQ community and drag queen folk in Spokane have come to our home church and stood outside our doors protesting, screaming at our church people as they come and go. One time I had to have our security team help get me to my car. My daughter has had nightmares because people are holding up hangers outside our car windows. So that’s the cost, your reputation. The left bullies with a fear of a destroyed reputation. So you’ve got to be ready for that.

The good part of it is I’m talking with My Faith Votes right now. I wasn’t doing that two years ago! I’ve always had a passion for our nation and revival in the church. So the Lord has kind of thrust me out and given me a voice which is what you want when you’re a preacher and in a Bible college. You want the Lord to use you mightily, you want to make a difference. In the last year and a half, all this wasn’t planned, I never dreamed this would happen. I thought twenty people were going to show up at the first outdoor church service but then you end up now with six hundred and fifty people coming and on the front page of the newspaper! The Lord just gives you an opportunity to do something you never dreamed of and that is to make a difference. That’s worth whatever opposition I go through. I never thought me making a difference would be starting a church at Planned Parenthood, but the Lord works in mysterious ways. He’s given me a voice, a prophetic voice in this nation through the craziest yet simplest of ideas. We’ve heard many, many stories of the blessing of The Church at Planned Parenthood.

I agree with all the prayers that TCAPP have prayed on sight for all the women that are brought there to be bound and gaged emotionally and spiritually as they are lead to the slaughter of their child. I am so very thankful for this movement, and pray your hedge of protection dear Lord on all it’s leaders and those who participate. May the powers and principalities of death be sent screaming in confusion as this movement brings repentance and vitality back to your church in America. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen

Thank you and thank you for listening to DADDY GOD calling for the churches to speak out through sermons against the destruction of life in the womb. I pray the blood of JESUS over your church body outside the Planned Parenthood offices. I pray that my pastor will be open to starting a TCPP and that it catches fire through the church communities. I pray Psalms 91 over your congregation and all supporters of TCPP, we are not protesters we are GOD’s arm protecting life. Onward Christian soldiers!!!!

If Only I Had Known

I really did not have a clue,
Would not have given up baby blue.
Never dreamed she was a life,
Could have ended years of strife.
If I had known I carried a baby
I would have at least said, “Maybe”.
A child I never knew,
The information was not true.
If I could have made an informed choice,
I would still be listening to her voice.
Years of tears for a wrong decision,
Given the truth I would have had a vision.
An ultrasound would have given her a start,
I just needed to see a beating heart.
She would not have been ravaged,
I would not be forever damaged.
I lift up all my pain and loss,
I gently set it at the foot of the cross.
The Lord has mended my broken heart,
I am blessed with a brand new start.
So now I reach out to you,
With the love of Faithful and True.

      GRACE ALONE

      As JESUS holds me near,
I wonder why I am here.
The result of a wrong choice,
Before a song came from my voice.
I never left the starting gate,
Never allowed to carry the weight.
During the dark night of your soul,
I wonder if you regret your role?
Though critically wounded is your heart,
It is never too late to make a new start.
I pray for the mom I never knew,
Handing her needs to Faithful and True.
JESUS, bring her to her knees,
Till Your love is all she sees.
      A woman broken in two,
Does not have to be forever blue.
I forgive my mom as I hand her to You,
Love her, JESUS, like she never knew!

My church 7th Day Baptist and my committee are praying for our Central NY Care Net Pregnancy centers (7) to remain strong, loving and compassionate continually reminding Moms & Dads through Bible Studies, Parenting Classes and providing needed items for their baby that God is forgiving, and loves you and your baby yet unborn and or being born to be the Joy of your lives.

          Beyond Baby Blue

          “Mother, look at my sonogram,
          It clearly proves, I am.
You will see my heart beat,
          Our eyes might even meet.
This is not what you planned,
But ending my life must be banned.”
At an abortion clinic two people enter,
A door closes at the center.
One forever damaged; one forever dead,
A life of love choose instead.
An overwhelming challenge you now face,
There is an option in your case.
Adoption is an act of love,
Like letting go of a newborn dove.
The gift of life you will set free,
And in time you will let it be.
Pray for courage to make the right choice,
          Listen for a gentle voice.
          Love beyond all measure,
As you release your little treasure.
She will sing her song and dance her dance,
A result of your courageous stance.
You will always live in the sun,
When you let your pony run.

Silent Suffering

Every Sunday I sat in the pew,
Wondering if anyone knew.
Suffering in silence,
Because of the violence.
I walked through a door,
My child to be never more.
When I walked out she was dead,
I am still going out of my head.
The elephant in the room,
Abortion, my little girl’s tomb.
I needed my church to be a voice,
Help me live with a wrong choice.
In church there are many like me,
You just cannot let it be.
Needed to hear that Jesus will forgive,
My only chance to once again live.
Grace needed to be the message of the day,
But now I just continue to pay.
If my church had discussed my loss,
I could have laid it at the cross.
Handed Jesus all my shame,

I know your grief, as I fathered a child that was aborted. I will meet who was to be my firstborn when I leave this body. What will I say? Will he or she forgive me? I have to trust in the sacrifice of Jesus and the love and mercy of Father God. Thank you for prayer of confession. May I share it with others so we may pray with greater focus?

A man in our small group had a similar story. When his father was dying, he realized his father would go to heaven and know that he had participated in an abortion. That was the start of a long healing process that involved prayer, counseling, sharing a letter to her in front of a large congregation where even the toughest of men had tears, and eventually speaking at the March for life. He found himself praising God while on his tractor for the forgiveness and mercy and freedom that he had received from the Lord. God forgives and He restores.

Forever Young, Forever Dead

I could be you,
Forever dead, baby blue.
You will be forever young,
A song that was never sung.
The civil rights movement of today,
In your execution you had no say.
Two people enter the Planned Parenthood door,
One soon to be forever no more.
Forever damaged, the other one,
Having taken the life of a daughter or a son.
A nation divided over this holocaust,
Millions of children forever lost.
More groans and tears need be prayed,
As America continues to fade.

praying Isaiah over this wonderful ministry…
Israel the Chosen
44 “But now listen, Jacob, my servant,
Israel, whom I have chosen.
2 This is what the Lord says—
he who made you, who formed you in the womb,
and who will help you:
Do not be afraid, Jacob, my servant,
Jeshurun,[a] whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.
4 They will spring up like grass in a meadow,
like poplar trees by flowing streams.
5 Some will say, ‘I belong to the Lord’;
others will call themselves by the name of Jacob;
still others will write on their hand, ‘The Lord’s,’
and will take the name Israel.

Thank You, Lord, for raising up Pastor Ken Peters to be a bold, innovative, true Christian pastor who is listening to You and being obedient. We need many more churches without walls. After all, THE CHURCH IS PEOPLE, NOT BUILDINGS!!!!! The main work of the Universal Church is OUTSIDE THE BUILDING. Too many churches have become social organizations as well as business organizations. If pastors are being silent on biblical issues such as abortion, sex trafficking, pornography, standing with Israel, etc., etc., then they are not relevant to today’s sick culture. All of these issues need to be addressed as we worship together and pray. What about the Christians that are being martyred daily? True disciples of Jesus are willing to lay down their lives for Yeshua HaMashiach as the Acts church did. And many are doing just that all over the world, because they will not renounce their Savior.
