HUCKABEE:
ISRAEL SHOULDN'T SWAP LAND
"You do not
achieve peace by creating a situation where
you cannot defend your borders and therefore
protect your citizens."
Intercede for political and spiritual
leaders of Israel and the United
States - that every decision, action or
plan to pressure Israel to give up land
or evacuate its people from any
territory would be frustrated and
abandoned.
May God raise up leaders in the U.S. and
Israel who would support His end-time
purposes for the Jewish people.
Intercede for Messianic believers in
Israel and for the establishment of
religious freedom. Intercede for the
revelation of Jesus as Messiah in the
Middle East and for "the peace of
Jerusalem." (Ps 122)
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee
said that Israel should not have to
trade land for peace. He believes Israel
should remain sovereign both in
Jerusalem and the West Bank.
"As an American, I do not feel that the
Israelis are obligated or required to
give up land in order to bring peace,"
said Huckabee, a Southern Baptist
minister who earlier this year lost his
bid to become the Republican party's
presidential nominee but still holds
sway with the key evangelical
constituency.
He looks unfavorably at a two-state
solution that involves giving portions
of the West Bank and Jerusalem to the
Palestinians. He said, "That would be
"irrational" from both the security and
effective governance perspectives.
"You do not achieve peace by creating a
situation where you can not defend your
borders and therefore protect your
citizens. Having a temporary cessation
of hostility is not peace if while that
cessation of hostility is going on, just
across the border, arms are being built
up for the purpose of eventually pushing
that border down."
He did not say where a Palestinian state
should be located. What was obvious, he
said, was that this Palestinian state
did "not have to be on top of Israeli
land," he said. If one looked at the map
of the Middle East, then "we are talking
about a postage stamp where Israel is"
and "we are talking about an
extra-ordinary footprint for land
controlled by Arabs," Huckabee said.
His observations about Israel and the
Palestinians were made as the result of
nine previous trips over the past 35
years, he said. This 10th visit on
Monday and Tuesday was sponsored by the
Jerusalem Reclamation Project, the US
arm of Ateret Cohanim, which works to
acquire property in east Jerusalem and
settle Jews there.
Huckabee lauded the work of the the
Jewish Reclamation Project, which "is
going about the process the right way,
not forcibly taking territory but doing
it the old fashioned way, purchasing
land and having families move into
neighborhoods." (Jerusalem Post 8/19/08)
ISRAELIS TRAVELING ABROAD RISK
KIDNAPPING
BY HEZBOLLAH TERRORISTS
In a
special advisory issued Wednesday, Aug.
20, the Counter-Terror Center in
Jerusalem warned Israelis traveling
abroad that they run the risk of
kidnapping by agents of the Lebanese
Hezbollah terrorist organization.
The center recommended certain
precautions:
Don't invite strangers or suspicious
characters to your hotel room.
Stay clear of lonely places after dark.
Take trustworthy companions with you to
business meetings and places of
entertainment.
During a long stay in one place, avoid
regular routines, switch hotels and do
not frequent the same restaurants or
places of entertainment. (DEBKA 8/20/08)
ISRAEL CONCERNED: RUSSIA MAY SELL
MISSILES, ADVANCED WEAPONS TO SYRIA
On a visit to Russia, Syrian President
Bashar Assad reportedly expresses
willingness to let Moscow locate
advanced weapons in his country. The
news kicked up a mini-storm of concern
in Israel on Thursday. Syrian President
Bashar Assad, in Russia for talks with
President Dmitry Medvedev, has been
campaigning to acquire weapons systems
that include long-range
surface-to-surface missiles, according
to Russian media reports.
The news of Assad's reported ambitions
prompted immediate hand-wringing among
Israeli officials and analysts. Knesset
member Silvan Shalom said Israel should
demand that Moscow refrain from "arming
its enemies." The Russian weapons that
most concern Israeli officials are the
S-300 surface-to-air missile and the
Iskander-E, a surface-to-surface missile
with a reported maximum range of 170
miles. (LA Times 8/22/08)

MAJOR
PROBLEM FOR AMERICA AND ISRAEL:
PAKISTAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS
 Pakistan's
nuclear weapons could fall into the
hands of terrorist groups al Qaeda and
the Taliban with the exile to Saudi
Arabia of deposed Pakistani president
and American anti-terrorist ally Pervez
Musharraf.
Experts, however, say this is unlikely
because a ten-member committee makes the
decisions regarding the nuclear weapons,
which are protected by the military and
closely screened security agents. What
the experts are not considering is that
the committee is comprised of Sharia-law
Muslims who see the United States as an
enemy and that is why Musharraf has been
forced out of office in the first place.
Musharraf was apparently the last
stronghold against working with the
Taliban and al Qaeda to solve political
problems in Pakistan. The new coalition
government's approach is to work with
and include the terrorist groups in
decision making about the issues facing
the country. Prior to Musharraf's
demise, intelligence reports indicated
that al Qaeda and the Taliban had
infiltrated much of Musharraf's military
and were laying in wait to seize nuclear
targets, including submarines capable of
launching nuclear weapons. (Bill Wilson,
Senior Analyst, KIN 8/19/08)
TALIBAN CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR
HOMICIDE BLASTS THAT KILLED 64 IN
PAKISTAN
Twin
Taliban homicide bombings at Pakistan's
largest weapons complex killed at least
64 people Thursday, heightening the
turmoil following Pervez Musharraf's
ouster as president.
The ruling coalition, made up of
traditional rivals who were united
primarily in their determination to
force Musharraf from office,
meanwhile appeared to be veering
toward collapse. The two main
parties have been unable to bridge
key differences such as whether
judges fired by Musharraf should be
quickly reinstated and who should
succeed him as president. Pakistanis
have urged the civilian government
to stop bickering and turn quickly
to tackling the country's problems
from an economic downturn to
extremist violence in the volatile
northwest, where fighting between
security forces and Islamic
militants has escalated in recent
weeks. (FOX 8/21/08)
PAKISTAN BICKERING OPENS
DOOR TO TERRORISTS
Pakistan's squabbling ruling
coalition was set for a
make-or-break meeting last night, a
day after a double suicide bombing
killed 64 people and highlighted the
Government's struggle with
extremism. The feuding coalition was
set to meet on the choice of a
president to replace Pervez
Musharraf, who stood down on Monday,
and on the thorny issue of
reinstating judges he sacked last
year in order to get re-elected.
Militants have vowed a renewed
campaign of bloodshed unless
Pakistan's leaders stop bombing the
Taliban on the Afghan border.
Analysts said the ruling coalition
was neglecting the country's
terrorism crisis by focusing so much
on who would succeed Mr Musharraf.
The opposition parties, who were
able to unite to get rid of Mr
Musharraf, now face the risk of
plunging Pakistan into further
instability. (news.com.au 8/23/08)
SEPTEMBER 6: PAKISTAN ELECTS
NEW PRESIDENT
Pakistan's election commission says
lawmakers will elect the country's
new president on Sept. 6. Members of
the federal and provincial
assemblies must select a successor
to Pervez Musharraf, who resigned on
Monday to avoid impeachment charges.
Wrangling over who should be
president is adding to the pressure
on the shaky coalition government
which pushed Musharraf from power
but disagrees on other key issues.

ESCAPING THE JAWS OF STARVATION
IN AFRICA'S HORN REGION
"If you spend
yourselves in behalf of the hungry and
satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then
your light will rise in the darkness and
your night will become like the noonday." -
Isaiah 58:10
World Vision has issued its highest level of
emergency response to the growing hunger
problem across the region. Severe food
shortages are threatening children's lives
in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda.
Millions of children and families across the
Horn of Africa - the northeastern region of
the continent, including the countries of
Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda - are
suffering the effects of severe drought and
hunger. Although the drought is largely due
to several consecutive lackluster rainy
seasons, the current situation is
intensified by a number of other factors,
including the worldwide upsurge of fuel and
food prices.
In Kenya, for example, inflation rates have
reached 30 percent. In Somalia, World Vision
staff members report the already enormous
needs have intensified because of rapidly
diminishing humanitarian access. The
increasing inaccessibility of food has
compounded an already fragile situation,
eroding the livelihoods and survival
strategies of an estimated 9.2 million
people across the Horn.

MUSLIM 'HONOR' KILLING COMES TO THE U.S.
No one knows just how many Muslim girls and
women are murdered each year in the name of
family "honor," since their deaths
frequently go unreported and unpunished. The
cases that do come to light are ghastly.
"Women and young girls are set ablaze,
strangled, shot at, clubbed, stabbed,
tortured, axed, or stoned to death," a
United Nations report noted in 2004. "Their
bodies are found mutilated with their throat
slit, or they are chopped into pieces and
thrown in a ditch."
The report singled out as especially
horrifying the honor killing in Pakistan
of "a 16-year-old girl who was
reportedly electrocuted to death after
being drugged with sleeping pills and
being tied to a wooden bed with iron
chains." Her offense: marrying a boy
from the wrong community. Countless
others have lost their lives for
refusing an arranged marriage, wearing
Western-style clothing, having a
boyfriend, or even being raped.
While honor killings may be more
prevalent in the Middle East,
no longer are they unknown in the West.
In the Atlanta suburb of Jonesboro last
month, a Pakistani immigrant allegedly
strangled his 25-year-old daughter with
a bungee cord because she was determined
to end her arranged marriage and had
gotten involved with a new man.
According to the Atlanta Journal
Constitution, Sandeela Kanwal's father,
Chaudhry Rashid, "told police he is
Muslim and that extramarital affairs and
divorce are against his religion [and]
that's why he killed her." In court last
week, a detective quoted Rashid: "God
will protect me. God is watching me. I
strangled my daughter." Other "honor"
killings have occurred in New York and
Texas.
It is appalling that such lethally
barbaric attitudes could persist
anywhere at this late date - and all the
more alarming, now that the shame of
honor killing has made its way here.

SAUDI
ARABIA: SHAKEN BY APOSTASY
AND DISSIDENCE
The
revolution in information and communication
technologies is making it impossible for
Islam to maintain its 1400 - year-long
dictatorship over Muslims.
The revolution in information and
communication technologies is making it
impossible for Islam to maintain its 1400 -
year-long dictatorship over Muslims that has
been sustained through enforced ignorance,
isolation and fear. Even in Saudi Arabia,
information gleaned from satellite
television and the Internet is leading some
Saudis to question Wahhabi Islam.
In November 2007 a Saudi girl aged 19 was
sentenced to jail and lashes after being
kidnapped at knife-point and gang-raped,
because when she was kidnapped she was in
the company of a male not her relative. A
most courageous Saudi human rights lawyer
named Abdulrahman Al Lahim stepped up to
defend her, which guaranteed the case would
attract wide media attention.
On 12 August, Gulfnews.com reported that a
Saudi man brutally killed his daughter for
converting to Christianity. This young
martyr had been blogging on the Internet
about her new faith and trials. She wrote
that her brother had been abusing and
threatening her ever since he found some
Christian articles she wrote as well as a
cross sign on her computer screen.
According to a friend who contacted 'Free
Copts', the killer is in police custody and
being investigated over the 'honour crime'.
Gulfnews reports, 'The death of the girl
sent shockwaves and websites where the
victim used to write with various nicknames
have allocated special space to mourn her,
while some others closed temporarily in
protest.' Saudi Christianity is a reality,
and it is no small thing that the death of
this 'apostate' is being widely mourned.
This killing will probably lead to two
things: (1) increased calls for
anti-apostasy Internet laws (as in Iran);
(2) increased rejection of Islamic
intolerance. Pray that this martyrdom will
herald the beginning of a great apostasy
debate in Saudi Arabia.
PLEASE PRAY
SPECIFICALLY FOR:
- Our Redeemer God to be mightily at work
inside Saudi Arabia, using this girl's
martyrdom for his purposes: enlightening
minds, softening hearts, and breaking chains
-- preparing the ground for the gospel of
the love of Christ.
- God to grant all Saudi dissidents great
strength and courage; especially that
converts to Christianity will receive
immense wisdom from the Holy Spirit,
protection by God the Father, and the
perfect love and salvation they have in
Jesus Christ will drive out all their fear.

IRAN SENDS SATELLITE INTO ORBIT
U.S. accuses Iran of aiming to equip
missiles with nuclear warheads
Iran said on Sunday it had put
a home-grown dummy satellite into orbit
on a domestically made rocket for the
first time. The long-range ballistic
technology used to put satellites into
space can also be used for launching
weapons
The United States and its European
allies fear Iran is trying to obtain
nuclear arms under cover of a civilian
program. Iran, the world's fourth
largest oil producer, insists it needs
nuclear technology to generate
electricity. Iran says it has home-grown
missiles with a range of 2,000 km (1,250
miles), meaning it could hit Israel or
U.S. military bases in the Gulf.
Iran has been hit by three rounds of
U.N. sanctions for defying demands that
it suspend its uranium enrichment
program. Six major powers are working on
another one. (Reuters 8/18/08

NORTH AMERICAN PRAYER SUMMIT, AUGUST 26-28
Next week, the North American Prayer
Summit will be held in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, August 26-28. Canadian, Mexican
and U.S. prayer leaders will be joined by
others with a strong burden to pray for our
region. They will be coming from England,
India and the islands of the South Pacific
at their own expense to intercede with us
during this critical time, especially for
the USA in our national election. Would
you please join us in prayer for His
anointing, guidance, unity and clarity as we
meet together? Pray that as a diverse
international group, we will be able to get
on the Lord's wave length, hearing clearly
what He is saying and responding
appropriately.
Immediately after the North American summit,
August 29-30, the Mexican leaders will come
down to New Mexico to visit our native
American tribal groups (pueblos) to ask
forgiveness for the sins of their ancestors
(Spaniards and Mexicans) who were guilty of
awful exploitation and even atrocities in
their conquest of this land over 400 years
ago. The wounds of history persist,
manifesting in alcoholism and depression,
suspicion of outsiders and resistance to the
Gospel. Please pray with us for open
doors and hearts and for true reconciliation
and healing that will bring Christ's
liberation to the pueblo peoples.
Thanks so much for your keeping these
concerns in your hearts over the coming
week.
Warm greetings,
John Robb |
