The Call DC

"JOIN IN SPIRIT" WITH THIS SATURDAY'S CALL ON THE DC MALL

"Oh Lord God of Israel , You are righteous, for we are left as a remnant, as it is this day.  Here we are before You, in our guilt . . ."  (Ezra 9:15)

If you cannot participate in person or "track" from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Eastern) via the Web and TV broadcast links noted below, please do take some time to draw off, present yourself to the Lord, and enter into a posture of personal and national repentance.  (Rom 6:13, 12:1-5)

Our sins, transgressions, and patterns of iniquity are now "piled high."  Offer thanksgiving that the Lord is willing to regard and hear even a remnant of His people repent and cry out for forgiveness, grace, and mercy: "Lord, have mercy!"

Make sure you have forgiven all offense (Mt 18:21-22) and are "at peace as best you are able" with every believer and leader in the body of Christ (Eph 4:1-6), then pray: "O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years!  In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy."  (Hab 3:2)

THE CALL DC AUGUST 16, 2008

A brief glance at the headlines of our daily newspapers exposes the frailty of the moral fabric of our nation as the corruption of sin digs its claws deeper and deeper into the hearts and minds of our young people. Abortion continues to claim over 1.6 million unborn lives every year in the U.S., wiping out nearly one-third of an entire generation born since 1973.

The growing slave trade of pornography, homosexuality, human trafficking, and sexual perversion - not only accepted by the culture, but now shamelessly promoted by it - has claimed countless young men and women, pilfering the Kingdom of the Lord's inheritance.

In 2000, 400,000 people, both young and old, gathered on the National Mall in Washington, DC to fast and pray believing the dream that a nation can change. That gathering and many others have imprinted tens of thousands of young people, initiating a 24-hour prayer revolution and inspiring a dream in their hearts that they could be a voice and real agents for change. Our nation continues in crisis and we feel it is time for TheCall to go to a national scale in another historic gathering in our nation's capital.

TheCall isn't a conference or a festival; it is a solemn assembly - a gathering of all ages, races and denominations. The 12 hours of TheCall are spent primarily before the Lord in the place of repentance, prayer, and worship. The hour is late and the time is urgent. Our nation is in desperate need of revival. We are seeing some signs of God moving, but we do not have what we need. Full-scale revival is only ushered in through the collective body of Christ uniting in repentance and prevailing prayer.

When there seems to be no remedy, when there seems to be no hope for a nation, God still has a holy prescription . . . God has a dream. "Blow the trumpet in Zion, gather the people, call a fast." (Joel 2:12-18)

See you from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the DC National Mall on Saturday, August 16th! Pre-Call conferences are also convening.

JORDAN BARS JEWS WITH RELIGIOUS ITEMS

Jordanian border officials refused to allow a group of Israeli tourists carrying religious objects such as talitot and tefillin to enter their country on Tuesday, saying it was "a safety measure" to avoid potential terror threats.

Thirty-six Israeli tourists on their way to Amman for a three-day tour were detained at the Sheikh Ali Hussein Crossing near Beit She'an at 6:30 a.m. and notified of a new regulation that prohibits entry into Jordan with tefillin, talitot, prayer books, Bibles or the Talmud.

"Our group was presented with two options," said Alan Novetsky, a recent immigrant from New York who was accompanied on the tour by his wife. "Either enter Jordan without religious objects or go back to Israel." Novetsky said the group's suitcases were thoroughly searched for religious items. "They seemed to know exactly what they were looking for. What made it worse was that the whole thing seemed to be directed solely at Jews. I saw Christians walking through into Jordan openly wearing crosses. Apparently, Christian religious symbols did not seem to be a problem for the Jordanians. I can well imagine the international outcry if Islamic tourists were to encounter such restrictions on their entry into Israel," stated Novetsky.

"The vast majority of the group decided that as proud Israelis, we were either going to be allowed to walk into Jordan holding our religious objects or we would not go in at all," Novetsky said. (IMRA - Independent Media Review and Analysis)

ISRAEL NEEDS RAIN DESPERATELY

Lord God Almighty:

- Perform a miracle in this season and replenish the water supply.

- Give the leadership wisdom to know how to meet the water needs.

- May the people be responsible in the use of their water.

- Fill the Sea of Galilee and the aquifers to normal levels.

- May Israel trust in You and have vision for their water demands now

and in the future. As You are bringing Your people back to the land,

they need water. (Intercessors for Israel www.ifij.org)

CHINA: A CALL TO PRAYER

Ten thousand Chinese become Christians each day, according to a stunning report by the National Catholic Reporter's veteran correspondent John Allen, and 200 million Chinese may comprise the world's largest concentration of Christians by mid-century, and the largest missionary force in history. (Asia Times 8/7/07)

OLYMPICS: Let us agree in prayer that the Lord will expose and thwart the spread of nuclear materials, devices, missiles, and bombs.  Pray for all in intelligence agencies who are "on watch" against nuclear, biological, and chemical terrorist devices and plans.  Pray that any terrorists who would be attempting to detonate nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction be exposed, arrested and brought to swift justice and to redemption.

CHINA'S ROLE IN DARFUR'S DETERIORATING SITUATION

In Darfur, men are often killed or captured when they leave refugee camps to collect firewood. So the women venture out instead - and regularly fall prey to a targeted campaign of rape encouraged by the Sudanese government. China blindly backs the Sudanese government and allows this brutality to continue. While the Chinese government basks in the glow of the Olympic Games, it is still selling Sudan weapons that enable these atrocities.

This week, our partner organization, Dream for Darfur, is highlighting China's role in this deteriorating situation as part of their alternative "Darfur Olympics." Will you join them?

Click here to help Dream for Darfur raise awareness about China's role in violence against Darfuri women. And urge Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to take immediate action.

Sexual violence in Darfur is not just a series of random acts. It is a weapon of genocide. Peacekeepers have tried to protect women, but they have failed because they are short of resources and stretched too thin to do the job. The world cannot sit by while sexual violence rages in Darfur. Today, Dream for Darfur is speaking out against this weapon of genocide. Add your voice, and demand protection for the women of Darfur. (Colleen Connors, Save Darfur Coalition)

"PRAY THE NEWS" THIS WEEKEND REGARDING RUSSIA AND GEORGIA

Let us affirm Jesus Christ as "ruler over the kings of the earth"

(Rev 1:6) and His reconciling preeminence over this region of

the earth, all related matters, and all officials involved in

resolution of these conflicts (Col 1:15-19)

President George W. Bush

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

President Dmitri Medvedev of Russia

Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin of Russia

President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia

Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the U.N.

U.S. ACCUSES RUSSIA OF CAMPAIGN OF SCORCHED EARTH IN GEORGIA

The United States accused Russia yesterday of waging a campaign to cripple Georgia's ability to defend itself in the future.

Two U.S. C17 transport aircraft landed in Tbilisi, from the U.S. airbase in Ramstein, Germany, bringing children's cots, sleeping bags, blankets and medical supplies for refugees displaced by the conflict. As the military transport aircraft landed in Tbilisi to strong complaints from Moscow, the Russian Army undertook search-and-destroy missions on Georgian soil, defying the ceasefire agreement brokered by President Sarkozy of France.

Tanks and soldiers continued to occupy Gori despite promising to leave by yesterday. A Georgian military base in the city was destroyed and the Georgian Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe accused the Russians of laying mines before a withdrawal.

In a clear sign that the Georgia crisis was escalating into a broader superpower conflict, the U.S. reached agreement with Poland last night over the controversial missile defense shield. Under the deal, the U.S. will beef up Polish defences with Patriot rockets and place ten missile defense interceptors in Poland. Donald Tusk, the Polish Prime Minister, said that the U.S. had pledged to come to the aid of his country if it came under attack. (BBC)

WAR IN IRAQ | WAR IN AFGHANISTAN

Pray that wisdom and strategy be granted to U.S. commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan. Intercede for Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the Afghan government,  Iraqi President Jalal Talabani (Kurdish), Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki (Shiite Muslim), the Parliament, and all officials that a form of good government representative of all Iraqi and Afghan socio-religious ethnic groups is established and maintained. Intercede for all troops deployed and for their families-for protection, good health and morale. Intercede for all Christians and churches in both countries. (1 Tim 2:2)

NEXT U.S. COMMANDER IN IRAQ CAUTIOUS ON TROOP CUTS

Next month, Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno will succeed Gen. David H. Petraeus as senior American commander in Iraq. General Petraeus will become commander of the Central Command.

Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno said Monday (August 11) that over the next year he hoped to recommend significant reductions in the number of American troops stationed there. He acknowledged, however, that political developments - like the recent delay in scheduling regional elections - would influence the troop reductions as much as the level of attacks. Even as the American military shifts more responsibility for direct combat to Iraqi security forces, the expanded need to train and support the Iraqis will require a substantial commitment of troops.

General Odierno, preparing for his third Iraq tour since the invasion of 2003, said his priorities would include continuing to suppress violence by terrorists who claim allegiance to Al Qaeda, and preventing hard-line Shiite militias from setting up a parallel system of civil services to rival the central government in Baghdad.

"Al Qaeda has a significantly reduced capacity, and we have to make sure they are not able to re-establish themselves and regenerate inside of Iraq," General Odierno, 53, said in an interview at the Pentagon. (NY Times 8/11/08)

Whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists

and that he rewards those who seek him. - Hebrews 11:6

Never say, 'I've had enough. What's the use of believing?' That would

be throwing away the crown which will be granted to those who

keep faith. Say instead, 'I won't give up, for You are alive,

my Lord and my God. You see me, and You will not let me

be tempted beyond my strength. I trust in You!'
